PlayStation delivering massive refunds to gamers now, so check your emails

A very happy The Last of Us Part II Remastered release day to all those who celebrate. Having played through this newest edition, I can attest that you are in for a treat.

In GAMINGbible’s review, I awarded the game a perfect score of 10, writing, “As a full package, there’s nothing else you could possibly want from The Last of Us Part II Remastered. We all thought Part II was Naughty Dog’s magnum opus but Part II Remastered shows that there’s plenty more gas in the tank. If this is insight into what’s to come from the studio, I cannot wait to see what Naughty Dog is cooking up next.” For those of you who’ve pre-ordered physical copies, I hope they’ve begun dropping through your letter box (I know my WLF Edition has, waiting to be opened). If you’ve pre-ordered the game digitally though, you may be in for a surprise in the way of a refund.

It’s a tad confusing so stay with me on this. If you purchase The Last of Us Part II Remastered on the PlayStation Store, it’ll cost you £44.99. This is aimed at people who do not own the game already. If you own The Last of Us Part II on PS4, you can simply upgrade for £10. What many fans have done though is despite owning the PlayStation 4 version, have paid for an entirely new copy.

Why depends on the individual. It could be that they wanted to gain the pre-order bonuses (early access to an ammo capacity upgrade and crafting training manual), or it could be that they didn’t know about the upgrade path. Well, Sony has begun issuing automatic refunds for all those who have purchased the new version in full (if they own the PS4 version), advising them to buy the upgrade instead. As a nice touch, they’ve included pre-order bonuses.

Twitter user ItzPaulHD_v1 shared his copy of the message. “As an owner of the PS4 digital version of The Last of Us Part II, a digital upgrade to the PS5 digital version will be available at a deeply discounted price on launch day,” it began. “We don’t want you to lose out on that opportunity so, as a gesture of good will, we have refunded your purchase for the pre-order [...] so that you may purchase the digital upgrade on launch day. Rest assured that by purchasing the digital upgrade, you will also receive any pre-order bonuses.” It’s nice to see Sony doing what’s best for consumers.
