PlayStation Plus' latest free game absolutely explodes in popularity

Dreams can come true

PlayStation Plus' latest free game has absolutely exploded in popularity, and it's really not hard to see why.

2023 has been a year of ups and downs for PlayStation Plus subscribers. We've had iconic trilogies and stunning PS5 exclusives, but there have also been some missteps that have left subscribers wondering why they part with their hard-earned cash each month.

Take a look at what you can do in Dreams below!

August's free games ultimately went down like a fart in a lift, which is a shame given it's a genuinely decent mix. Subscribers can currently grab PGA Tour 2K23, Dreams, and Death’s Door. That's a pretty spot-on lineup, especially the incredible Death's Door, but gamers are genetically predisposed to complain, I fear.

But as much as I love Death's Door and would force you all to play it if I knew where you lived and had no regard for respecting people's boundaries and locked front doors, Dreams is perhaps the most notable inclusion of the month.

For those who aren't aware, Dreams is... well, pretty much whatever you want it to be. Within Dreams you can build your own games, make your own art, and even make your own movies. It's an incredibly versatile piece of software, one that gives players access to thousands of games made by fellow creators.

Unsurprisingly, Dreams has absolutely exploded in popularity since joining PlayStation Plus, finally shining a spotlight on a game that perhaps didn't get the attention it deserved at the time.

As spotted by users on the PlayStation Plus subreddit, Dreams has gained almost an extra 350,000 players since the start of the month. It remains to be seen how many players actually stick around, of course, but there's so much to do and see on Dreams that I hope all these new players are inspired to keep the game installed. Certainly, there's plenty of fun to be had in sitting down with friends of an evening and surfing through random creations. Some of them are genuinely, shockingly awful, and others are some of the best short games I've played in years. No matter what, you'll be constantly entertained.
