PlayStation Plus' latest free game is a smash hit, fans think it should've been added years ago

One of my favourite things about PlayStation Plus is the fact that it puts the spotlight on games that many may have otherwise missed. It’s so delightful to see a ton of love directed at a game that’s perhaps got a falling player count, or simply flew under the radar to begin with.

The August PlayStation Plus essential tier line-up is now available - and this month, subscribers can grab PGA Tour 2K23, Death’s Door, and Dreams. Technically, you can also grab Tren, a brand new game exclusively available in Dreams. It’s Dreams that I’m here to talk to you about today. Developed by Media Molecule, Dreams was released back in 2020. It was actually revealed earlier this year that live service support for the game will end in September 2023, as developers plan to move on to an unannounced project. That seemed to spell the end of this unique release, but its addition to PlayStation Plus has seemingly triggered a popularity resurgence.

Dreams is, not to be cheesy, whatever you want it to be. You can create your own game, image, animation, sculpture ... you name it. Or you can simply enjoy those created by other players. Since being added to PlayStation Plus, the game has seen an increase of 100,000 players - and don’t forget that it’s only been on PS Plus for a couple of days, so this number will surely only grow.

Over on Reddit, players discussed their delight at discovering this game - adding that it should’ve been added to the service much sooner. Yosonimbored wrote, “Wild. You’d think it should’ve gone to PS [Plus] ages ago or as a F2P with live service aspects,” while Vespaeelio added, “So far so good! Love the creations I’m seeing.”

User pnutbuttered said, “Dreams is still incredible, I wish I had the talent to make something in it.” I can relate to that. Luckily for us, there’s so much user and developer-generated content for us to enjoy. Dreams is available on PlayStation Plus until 4 September.
