PlayStation Plus free games for August 2023 officially announced

Roll up, roll up. It’s that time of the month again. Yes, there are only a few days left of July which means that Sony has just announced August’s essential tier PlayStation Plus line-up.

Before we dive into what’s on offer this month, let’s recap on July’s offerings. This month, PlayStation Plus subscribers have been able to nab Alan Wake Remastered, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and Endling - Extinction is Forever. You have just a few more days to download those games so if any sound of interest, act now. I particularly recommend Alan Wake Remastered. There’s no better time to catch up on the series seeing as Alan Wake 2 is set to launch on 17 October - and it looks absolutely fantastic. Without further ado though, the August line-up consists of: PGA Tour 2K23, Dreams, and Death’s Door.

Well, that’s quite the underwhelming line-up. Subscribers will be able to grab PGA Tour 2K23, Dreams, and Death’s Door as of 1 August, so you don’t have long to wait. Let’s dive into each game, starting with PGA Tour 2K23. There’s no prize for working out that this one, unsurprisingly, is a golf game. For the first time in the series, players can pick to play as female or male tour pro. You’ll need to level up your skills as you compete to become the next FedExCup Champion.

Dreams is the award-winning release from Media Molecule. It’s essentially a digital creative playground where you can create practically anything you want. Use easy-to-wield tools to craft your own game, painting, animation .. you name it. A great download if you’re someone who’s endlessly creative. It’s certainly not for everyone though.

We round out the trio with Death's Door. Developed by Acid Nerve, Death’s Door is an action-adventure title that sees players take on the role of a small crow who collects souls for the Reaping Commission Headquarters. It’s been likened to both The Legend and Zelda and the Dark Souls games, and I suspect it may turn out to be this month’s winning offering.
