It doesn't matter which PlayStation Plus tier you subscribe to, each offers an absolutely banging choice of fantastic games.
Granted, the higher tier you subscribe to, the more choice you have. That being said, ever since PlayStation Plus began during the PS3 era, we’ve had some of the best games the console has to offer and this generation is no exception.

In 2021, Bethesda released a game that took the video game community by storm and to much surprise, it had nothing to do with the likes of The Elder Scrolls or Fallout. The game in question was a new IP, from Arkane, the same studio that brought us the fantastic Dishonored series. That game was none other than Deathloop.

In terms of its aesthetic design and gameplay mechanics, Deathloop is heavily inspired by Dishonored. In fact, the developers later confirmed that both games share the same universe. However with Deathloop, as the name of the game suggests, the game cycles in a seemingly endless loop with each player's death.
It is quite literally a fun gameplay loop that has the player continually wanting to right a previous wrong and uncover the mysterious secrets hidden within the island of Blackreef. As the tagline of the game so accurately says: “If at first, you don’t succeed…Die, die again.”
“Deathloop is a next-gen first-person shooter from Arkane Lyon, the award-winning studio behind Dishonored. In Deathloop, two rival assassins are trapped in a mysterious time loop on the island of Blackreef, doomed to repeat the same day for eternity,” reads the game’s synopsis. “As Colt, the only chance for escape is to end the cycle by assassinating eight key targets before the day resets. Learn from each cycle - try new paths, gather intel, and find new weapons and abilities. Do whatever it takes to break the loop.”
Interestingly, prior to Microsoft acquiring Bethesda's parent company ZeniMax Media, Deathloop as well as Ghostwire: Tokyo found itself in the unusual situation of being a PlayStation timed exclusive. Of course, now, Bethesda titles are first-party Xbox products. What’s more, both games are now available on Xbox.

Deathloop came to Sony’s PlayStation Plus in September 2022 and a year removed since it arrived, it will soon be leaving the subscription service. So if you want to play this absolute banger, time is ticking. Deathloop will be leaving PlayStation Plus on 19 September 2023.
Found in the ‘Last Chance to Play’ tab on the PS Plus library, Deathloop will also be joined by fellow exiles, Chicory: A Colorful Tale, Death end re;Quest 2, Nidhogg 2, Through the Darkest of Times: a historical resistance strategy game, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands, Watch Dogs and Watch Dogs 2.
In our review of Deathloop, we said: “As your experience grows of the ins and outs of the island, you'll maximise the hours you have and become a force unto yourself, shuffling Eternalists off their mortal coil in creative ways. All of this feels fantastic, so hats off to Arkane for setting themselves and the players an exciting, rewarding, and ambitious challenge that they won't forget.”
Deathloop is out now on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
