Red Dead Redemption just got a surprise update you can download now

Yeehaw

Red Dead Redemption just got a sneaky update that you can download right now. Not something I expected to be saying about a game that first came out in 2010, but life comes at you fast.

The original Red Dead Redemption was ported to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 last year. While it certainly wasn't the remake (or even remaster) many of us had been hoping for, it was at least a way to play the 2010 Rockstar Games classic on Nintendo and Sony consoles.

The good news is that the port hasn't just been abandoned, and Double 11 - the studio who handled moving Red Dead Redemption to modern consoles - has continued to tweak and fix the game as needed.

As spotted by Twitter user and Rockstar newsman @videotechuk, Double 11 actually just released a new update for the game on PS4 and PS5, available to download right now.

Unfortunately, before you get too excited, it looks as if this is a very small update (376MB) focused mainly on fixing bugs and tightening up any loose bits. I'd imagine you weren't expecting new content for a 14 year old single-player game, of course, because that would be wild.

Rockstar Games is, of course, currently focused on a little game called GTA VI, so don't expect to see anything substantial from the world of Red Dead Redemption for a very, very long time.

While Red Dead Redemption 3 has been mentioned in the broadest possible terms, it's clear Rockstar's undivided attention will be on supporting the new GTA and its inevitable Online mode in 2025 and far beyond. If you want some western action, you'll have to make do with the two (very good) Red Dead Redemption games we have. Or if you're really desperate you could all the way back and check out Red Dead Revolver, I guess.
