The Elder Scrolls 6 PlayStation 5 release looks way more likely now

A lot of Xbox users might not be happy, but Playstation gamers certainly are

The Elder Scrolls VI feels like a dream we once had, in which Bethesda promised us the game and then it never came. Unfortunately, that dream did happen, only the game is launching eventually, just not as soon as we expected.

That was, until Microsoft announced Starfield would be coming to PlayStation. Now fans are speculating whether the next Elder Scrolls title will be coming to the PS5 – if an exclusive like Starfield is, why not Skyrim’s successor?

We're hoping The Elder Scrolls VI will look as stunning as this Skyrim graphics overhaul does

Despite previous instalments in the franchise launching on Sony’s flagship console as well as Microsoft’s, it was confirmed back in 2021 that the next Elder Scrolls game would be an Xbox exclusive. Naturally, with how popular Skyrim still is, fans who favour the PS5 were saddened to realise they’d need to forego playing the game or purchase a new console.

Yet now that might not be the case, for it seems Microsoft is going back on its exclusivity policy; Starfield heading to the PS5 is proof of that. Back when Bethesda’s sci-fi RPG was announced, it was marketed everywhere as an exclusive, much like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. However, such exclusivity seems to have been brushed aside in favour of reaching as many gamers as possible.

It begs the question, though, of what Microsoft’s end goal to all this is. “I become more and more convinced all the time that in 10 years Microsoft gaming will just be Gamepass on multiple different third party devices and the Xbox brand will be a memory,” said one fan upon hearing the news.

Even though gamers are clearly divided on the matter, it does mean that the possibilities for The Elder Scrolls VI have opened up, which does soften the blow of Xbox seemingly just giving its exclusives away. We might all be questioning what the point of “investing so much money into this ecosystem” is anymore, but at least we can live in hope that none of us will be denied the chance to delve deeper into The Elder Scrolls lore in the new game.
