The original Twisted Metal (AKA the 1995 classic) in finally going to be playable on modern consoles again, and it’s about time too.
As far as video games are concerned, the Twisted Metal franchise has been quiet for some time now. The most recent entry was, confusingly, Twisted Metal - the 2012 reboot of the series which released on PS3. Admittedly, the reboot didn’t really amount to much given that nothing else has come out since, but with the TV series now on the horizon, maybe Twisted Metal is finally getting the revival it deserves.

Twisted Metal (the TV series this time, not the original game or reboot) won’t be a direct adaptation of the first game’s plot - it’s an original story loosely based on the franchise. With that said, showrunners Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Deadpool, Zombieland) are massive fans of the games, so it’s hopefully still going to be a good time for series veterans.

Just to add to the Twisted Metal hype, yesterday Sony confirmed that both Twisted Metal (1995) and Twisted Metal 2 are soon going to be playable on PS4 and PS5 via the PlayStation Plus Premium game catalogue. They’ll both be available to play from 18 July.
Other than those two, there’s a further 16 games getting added to PS Plus Extra and Premium later this month, including It Takes Two and Undertale. Spicy! At the same time, however, 10 other games will be leaving the service, including the adorable kitty adventure game Stray. If you’ve not played that already, it only takes about five hours to complete the main stuff, so don’t miss out on Extra tier’s most popular title.
Twisted Metal's TV adaptation is set to premiere on Peacock on 27 July.
