Skate 4 is rumoured to be released later this year, and you might be able to play it sooner than you’d think.

As someone who adores the Skate series and still loads up Skate 3 from time to time as a comfort game, the news that a fourth game is on the way is still really exciting.

Take a look at Skate 4 below

Details on the game are few and far between at the time of writing, though we have seen little snippets of gameplay in the past.

It’s said the next game in the series will be free-to-play, and while that’s a little worrying to hear considering that usually means it’ll be plagued with microtransactions, it at least means more people will be able to play it.

Other reports claim it’s scheduled for release sometime this year, and now a Facebook group has said an open beta will be rolled out very soon to give players a chance to try the game for themselves and provide feedback.

This news obviously needs to be taken with a pinch of salt, but of course it’s not out of the question.

Fans like myself are expecting big things from Skate 4, with the actual skating gameplay and the open world being huge topics of discussion online.

Skate 3 was divided into several maps, each of which could be explored through a mission mode or freeplay.

You could skate around residential areas into empty swimming pools, down the railings of college campuses or get some serious airtime in colossal skate parks.

Hopefully the next Skate game lives up to the series’ name, and with any luck we’ll be given the chance to try it for ourselves when the game’s open beta launches, supposedly in the coming months.
