You really can’t beat a good single-player game, and fans are hailing the below classic title as the best of the best.
Despite more and more games aiming to be the next great multiplayer title, the game industry isn’t short of single-player experiences. Take today for instance, when two enormous RPGs, Starfield and Baldur’s Gate 3, dropped on the Xbox Series X/S and Playstation 5 respectively.

Now though, gamers on Reddit have been discussing the best single-player games, both past and present, and some came to a very surprising conclusion.

User NoGoodGodGames asked the r/gaming subreddit: “What single-player game has the most fun gameplay? Ignore story. Ignore visuals. Ignore genre. Only things that matter are gameplay mechanics and level design. You define fun.”
While some spectacular games were shared by players, a surprising answer was Spartan: Total Warrior, a hack-and-slash game created by Creative Assembly and published by Sega. It was released in 2005 for PlayStation 2, the original Xbox, and Nintendo GameCube.
“Spartan: Total Warrior. You just kill Roman after Roman and it's so satisfying especially if you have the double blades,” read one comment. Other commenters who’ve played it rallied behind the choice, praising the game’s combat, multiple weapon choices, characters and more. “Was NOT expecting to see this shout-out today,” said one user.
Other comments read, “This game was a great hack-and-slash. The new weapons always felt amazing,” and, “Real, I remember playing this game as a kid. I played it over so many times that I was able to recite how the game plays out from start to finish, every level, all the characters, all the weapons, everything. Never got a game to even get close to this.”

Not the choice a lot of us would have expected, but it’s nice to see Spartan: Total Warrior get the recognition it deserves.
