Ubisoft has confirmed Star Wars Outlaws won’t be the never-ending RPG Assassin’s Creed Valhalla was.

This will likely be good news for fans, as if you’ve played some of Ubisoft’s recent Assassin’s Creed games, like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, you’ll know that there’s a lot to see and do.

While most people enjoy a highly-explorable open world, sometimes there’s a limit to just how far it should take you. This was one of the main concerns with the newly announced Star Wars Outlaws, which promises to be an intergalactic Star Wars adventure we’ve never seen before, harkening back to the wondrous imagination present in the original trilogy.

Protagonist Kay Vess and her oddly attractive droid friend ND-5 will be visiting a number of planets, new and old, during the course of their adventure, none of which will be procedurally generated. It sounds like a blast, as long as it doesn’t take us forever to see everything.

Recently, Ubisoft addressed these fears, and confirmed that Star Wars Outlaws won’t be “unfinishable” and that everything on offer is designed to keep players interested, and seeing the story through to the end.

The game’s creative director Julian Gerighty spoke about the game’s scope during an interview with IGN at San Diego Comic-Con, saying: "Our objective is to really get people into a very dense, rich, open world adventure that they can explore at their own rhythm... So it is absolutely not a 200 or 300 hour epic unfinishable RPG. This is a very focused action-adventure RPG that will take people on a ride and is very manageable."

Sounds like a lot of fun, and nice to know we won’t all have long wizard beards by the end of our playthroughs. Interestingly, Gerighty went on to say that each part of the open world has been designed with the protagonist in mind, going on to say: “We're building open worlds, we're building bustling cities and cantinas and wide open plains, but we always try to approach it from a place of character, from a place of story and realising that this might be Kay Vess' first entry into a planet like Toshara.”

Seems like the developers are going for quality over quantity when designing Star Wars Outlaws’ explorable galaxy, which will likely be great news for completionists. Don’t worry though, there’ll still be plenty to see and do to keep you coming back to the game for quite a while.

Star Wars Outlaws releases sometime next year, for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC.
