Fallout 3 remaster quietly teased via Steam

Fallout 3 remaster quietly teased via Steam

Is Fallout 3 going to receive a remaster after all these years?

Bethesda is known for crafting some of the most iconic RPGs of all time whether it's The Elder Scrolls or the Fallout series.

Aside from the likes of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, one of the games considered to be one of Bethesda’s best, is the retro-inspired post-apocalyptic RPG, Fallout 3. Released in 2008 for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Fallout 3 was met with high critical acclaim and all these years later, fans are still enjoying its adventures, especially on PC when it comes to fantastic community mods.

Check out the Fallout 3 trailer below!

“Vault-Tec engineers have worked around the clock on an interactive reproduction of Wasteland life for you to enjoy from the comfort of your own vault. Included is an expansive world, unique combat, shockingly realistic visuals, tons of player choice, and an incredible cast of dynamic characters,” reads the description of Fallout 3.

Modders do wonderful work breathing new life into the games we love whether it's new content, visual overhauls or gameplay improvements. However, it might be safe to assume for a game that was originally released nearly 16 years ago, Bethesda wouldn't be publishing official updates for the likes of Fallout 3, right? Well, that might actually be happening after a subtle remaster was perhaps teased on Steam recently.

A couple of weeks ago, as talked about in a Reddit thread, Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition received a new PEGI rating. For the record, Fallout: New Vegas was initially released in 2010. So it’s odd that all these years later, it would receive a new PEGI rating. We can only guess what this could mean. The optimist might hope that it may be receiving a remaster soon or that content in the game may have been reviewed and a PEGI amendment is required. Now as shared in another Reddit post, Fallout 3 may also be getting a similar update.

It would be awesome news if Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas were to receive a remaster of sorts, even if it's just a resolution or performance boost. However, that does seem unlikely at this stage and it could just be the speculative content review by PEGI, but I hope that I am wrong. Only time will tell. That being said, it might not be great news for modders, because any new update for a game runs the risk of breaking mods which will require fixing.

Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are available on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. What’s more, both games are also available to Xbox Game Pass subscribers at no extra cost.
