Another gritty hardcore shooter incoming

If hardcore shooters are your thing, you’re feasting pretty good at the moment. It’s about to get a whole lot better with the release of this shooter, Road to Vostok.

The Early Access Steam game looks to merge Fallout with Call of Duty, by way of Escape From Tarkov. It looks the part, with some great shots of authentic weaponry along with some atmospheric environments that place you in a ‘no man’s land’ between Finland and Russia.

Road to Vostok may pick up some DMZ players now Call of Duty has canned the mode

Road to Vostok is pitching itself as a competitor to both Call of Duty and Escape From Tarkov as it finds itself in the looter shooter category that focuses on extraction gameplay. This post-apocalyptic world is one filled with players and AI scavenging through the detritus to stay alive.

Of course, there are plenty of survival mechanics thrown in too. You’ll need to find lots of food, items to help you safely shelter, as well as weapons to defend yourself. An interesting feature here is the AI difficulty which scales up the closer you travel to Vostok offering better loot, and players will have to cross the border using differing tactics.

The list of features is huge and builds a game that is not to be missed; several maps to play, dynamic weather, a full trading system, realistic and tactical weapons handling, buildable shelters, and on top of all that, we have permadeath which sees you lose precious items out in the field. There’s no mention of PvP on the Steam page for the game, so this could appeal to those who prefer PvE gameplay.

As the extraction genre seems to be leading a charge into 2024, Road to Vostok could end up seeing a lot of success should it launch soon. Sadly, there’s no firm release date quite yet, but a demo on Steam should whet your appetite.
