Within the last two decades, two of the best RPG franchises have been from the likes of Bethesda with the Fallout series and FromSoftware with Elden Ring.
The Fallout series is one of the longest-running RPG franchises in the video game industry. In terms of mainline entries in the series, before the franchise was handed over to Bethesda, it was handled by the now defunct Interplay Productions in 1997 and 1998. Then the course of the series changed forever in 2008 with the release of Fallout 3 now under the Bethesda umbrella.

As for FromSoftware, this Japanese studio started life with humble beginnings with the relatively unknown King’s Field for the original PlayStation in 1994 before eventually moving on to legendary series such as Armored Core, Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Elden Ring. So if we were able to have a little bit of Fallout and Elden Ring into one indie delight, that would be fantastic and that’s where the upcoming RPG Ardenfall comes into discussion.

The gameplay trailer for Ardenfall certainly helps to set the tone of what to expect from this charming indie RPG. However, as well as giving us vibes of Fallout and Elden Ring, its visual design also seems to have a hint of Sifu, a martial arts game recently included in PlayStation Plus.
Ardenfall does not have a release date at the time of writing but it does have a playable demo that you can check out right now via Steam. Hopefully, Spellcast Studios will announce the release date in the coming months. In the meantime, be sure to add Ardenfall to your Steam wishlist to keep updated as to when the RPG is being released.
