Fallout meets BioShock in free Steam download, but you don't have long

Time is of the essence here, so act fast to avoid disappointment

Anyone who pretends they haven’t dreamt of seeing Fallout and BioShock combined has been lying to everyone, including themselves. It would easily be such an incredible experience – the murky aesthetics of both worlds marrying together so perfectly.

Well, luckily for those of us who don’t deny our feelings, such a game has been created, and it’s free to download on Steam right now. However, that free price tag won’t hang around for long.

We’ve been waiting a long time (Christ, as a gamer you get to say that a lot) for a new BioShock, and while we aren’t getting that, we are in for a treat from the devs in the form of promising FPS Judas. Its vibe checks out for us die hard fans, though the proof will be in the pudding.

Don't forget to check out the official gameplay from Serum

Still, while there’s a new BioShock-like title coming, we want to experience those BioShock vibes of old, but with a Fallout twist of desolation and brutalised nuclear landscapes. Serum gives us this great gift.

From what we’ve learned thus far, there’s a lot of similarities between Fallout: The Machine and Her, in that Serum promises an unforgettable, gritty adventure. Whether it lives up to those expectations remains unseen, at least for now.

Launching in Q2 2024, Serum is a “survival adventure” where you need to stay alive after an “unknown liquid takes control of your life”. No, it’s not Flubber, it’s something more sinister and way less cute.

For those not willing to wait until its release, and those hooked after playing the demo, you can play Serum early access to experience the game’s development and fine tuning in real time. Arguably, this is the only way you’ll get to play the game for free beyond the limits of its demo.

The Unreal Engine 5 game will launch later in the year, primarily only on Steam, specifically Microsoft systems. Hopefully this will change as the game gathers players, but for now Mac gamers have to miss out on this one.
