They say that nothing in life comes for free, and while I don’t know who ‘they’ are and would also argue that saying isn’t strictly true, it might apply to this situation simply due to the amount of stress Starfield fans are under right now trying to get free Steam codes.
To say that Starfield is one of this year’s most exciting video game releases, it’s pretty surprising how affordable it’s going to be to play it. Bethesda’s space-exploration RPG is coming to Xbox Game Pass on day one, meaning that anyone already paying for a subscription won’t have to pay an extra penny in order to get lost in space. Admittedly, Game Pass did just get more expensive, so that’s unfortunate timing, but paying for that is still a lot cheaper than buying a full price £70 game.

Game Pass aside though, it’s already been confirmed that there’s another way to get Starfield for the low, low price of nothing. Well, assuming that you were already planning on buying a new processor or graphics card for your PC, anyway. Specifically, with the purchase of select AMD Ryzen processors and AMD Radeon graphics cards from certain retailers, you’ll get a Steam code for Starfield bundled in for free. Obviously, these bundles are pricey given that the tech itself is very expensive, but if you were already thinking of upgrading your PC setup, then it’s a genuinely great bonus.

However, on Reddit, there’s already been some chaos surrounding the distribution of the bundled Steam keys - some gamers claim to have had them added to their accounts already, ready to download when the game is available, whereas others are yet to have the offer acknowledged at all.
“Confirmed that AMD Bundle gives a Steam key. […] Steam key added to my rewards account but they don't actually have them in stock yet,” SounisPoppy wrote. “I bought a Ryzen 9 7900x on Tuesday and they haven't sent me my key yet,” another Reddit user commented. “I bought right after midnight early Tuesday and haven't gotten it. But I'm sure it'll come. Still plenty of time to get this all sorted out,” ASithLordNoAffect added.
Here’s hoping that those paying for those expensive bundles can get everything ironed out before Starfield’s launch on 6 September.
