Steam drops 6 new free games for you to download and keep forever

You know the drill by now. Gaming can be a very expensive hobby, but it doesn’t have to be.

We want to ensure that it's accessible to all by highlighting the latest giveaways, offers, and free-to-play delights so that you can safely keep your pennies tucked away.

If you’re a PC gamer, Steam is the place to go for those aforementioned free-to-play delights, with six more now having landed on the storefront as reported by SteamGamesPC.

Let’s kick off with SMU Guildhall and Cohort 32’s intriguing upcoming single-player FPS Asurya’s Embers. Set in a Himalayan village plagued by an environmental disaster, players assume the role of the bow-wielding Dawa who’s tasked with protecting the village from vengeful sun god Asurya’s evil wrath. Already, the game has garnered ‘Mostly Positive’ reviews with players praising the art direction and ambition of the developers.

A free Sand Land demo is now available on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

If third-person shooters are more your thing, MetaDOS’ aptly titled MetaDOS recently launched. Claiming to be “the next-gen battle royale”, MetaDOS is essentially a mixture of Fortnite and the film In Time. By killing enemies, you’ll acquire their time with the goal being to become the last player standing. The concept may be intriguing but I’d avoid this one. Players have referred to it as a “scam” and “blockchain game”. Yikes.

Returning to more wholesome pastures, Neon Play’s Rivals Duel: Card Battler is “an enthralling card game set in the world of military strategy and combat. Step into the boots of a commander and lead your forces to victory in this engaging card-battling experience.” Players have praised the simple mechanics, calling it a great introductory collectible card game.

80_bloom’s Go Go Zombies is next on the list. This real-time strategy game mimics the visual chaos of Vampire Survivors. If your eyes can handle so much happening on screen at once then you may want to give it a whirl. The game reportedly only takes three-hours to finish so could be a nice afternoon of entertainment.

Moving into the world of 2D sandbox games, we have Ubisoft Abu Dhabi’s Growtopia. The game “brings together millions of players in an expansive pixel world. Collaborate in building anything you can imagine, become anyone you want to be, and delve into numerous mini-games. Unleash your creativity and join the massive universe in Growtopia today,” reads the synopsis. Unfortunately, it has garnered negative reviews as of late due to an influx of bots and scammers. Proceed with caution.

Metaball is here to round us out. Developed by Bucketplay Inc, Metaball is an action-packed sports game that essentially sees you play a basketball-esque game atop a hoverboard. While the game is slightly clunky for now, it’s very much in its infancy - and you can also check this one out on Xbox and PlayStation.
