Steam adds highly-requested PlayStation feature

Steam adds highly-requested PlayStation feature

Steam has finally added additional support features for gamers who use PlayStation controllers. It took them long enough.

Despite Steam being a platform for PC games, many gamers choose to use controllers rather than mouse and keyboard, whether it be because the game is better suited to one or just through personal preference.

Check out the trailer for The Last Of Us Part II: Remastered below.

That’s all well and good, but controllers are getting more advanced every year, with PlayStation leading the charge with continued evolutions of its DuelSense controllers.

The PlayStation 5 controller has features like adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, a gyroscope and a speaker, which is great if you’re using it with the console but none of it works on Steam, until now. Valve announced a few weeks ago that it’d soon be updating its platform to support DuelSense, and it’s finally here.

Steam store pages have been updated to show which games support the added functionality and even let you factor it into searches if you’re specifically looking for titles best played with a PS5 controller.

It’s come at the right time too, as while PlayStation has always had some of the best controllers on the market when it comes to additional features, it seems Xbox will soon be responding with its own enhanced controller.

During the proceedings for Xbox’s acquisition of Activision-Blizzard, which has since been finalised, leaks were shared online revealing some of the upcoming hardware Xbox is working on. This included a new console variation with a frankly bizarre design, as well as a shiny new controller, which basically has all the features of a PlayStation DuelSense.

Pair that with the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller which also has some decent functionality options, and there’s suddenly more reason than ever to make sure as many platforms as possible support controllers.

The new Steam patch can be installed right now, letting you take advantage of the new support options.
