Steam and Bethesda team up for awesome limited time free download

Steam and Bethesda have teamed up and released a new DOOM avatar, but you only have a short time to grab it for free.

To celebrate DOOM’s 30th anniversary, Bethesda Softworks has teamed up with Steam in order to create a brand new avatar that’s totally free for users to grab now.

While this is by no means the most exciting freebie, it’s well worth picking up if you’re a fan of DOOM. The avatar is animated so it will undoubtedly be a snazzy little addition to your Steam collection. If you want to nab this freebie, I’d act sooner rather than later. To get it for free, you need to tune into the DOOM 30th anniversary stream, which is on right now as I type this. Once you’ve clicked through to the stream, you need to be signed in, and watch for at least 10 minutes. After this point, you should get the avatar for free.

Take a look at DOOM Eternal in action below.

Other prizes are also being given away throughout the steam including a DOOM inspired Noble gaming chair, so you may want to watch for longer. There’s a really engaging discussion going on right now with various devs involved in the franchise that’s certain to appeal to all DOOM fans.

In case you missed it, DOOM Eternal’s new-gen update has finally been announced to coincide with the original game’s 30th anniversary. What’s even better is that you can nab the PlayStation 5 / Xbox Series X/S upgrade totally for free if you already own the game. The update introduces a Performance Mode, Balanced Mode, and Ray Tracing Mode. Unfortunately, the Ray Tracing Mode isn’t available if you’re playing the game on the Series S console, but you’ll be able to sample Performance and Balanced.

The question is: What’s next for the DOOM franchise? We have a rumoured title of DOOM Year Zero, but otherwise there’s nothing to go on. Let’s hope 2024 brings us some answers.
