Now's the time to get a great WW2 freebie

Some people like to get merry and be jolly over Christmas, but others prefer celebrating with brutality and warfare. If you fall into the latter category, you’re in luck, because Steam is offering a free download for one of the “best WW2” shooters out there.

We appreciate some people will think it wrong to take up arms over the festive period, but if it’s good enough for David Harbour’s Santa Clause, it’s good enough for us! The Team17 Steam freebie is Hell Let Loose – Winter Warfare, a DLC to the Hell Let Loose base game.

Not seen Hell Let Loose gameplay yet? Then we've got your back!

Released in 2019, the DLC has been out for some time now, likely long enough for fans of the franchise to have already downloaded. But if you’re new to Team17’s historic shooter, now’s your chance to bag yourself a bargain. Of course, to get this bargain you do need to buy the base game, which is priced at £39.99, but hey, Ol’ Saint Nick can’t be just giving video games away – it’s only Christmas, not a utopia.

Both Hell Let Loose and Winter Warfare have “very positive” reviews on Valve’s online platform, with gamers declaring it one of the greatest WW2 titles, as well as calling the devs “amazing”; it isn’t just one comment that says this, dozens do, thus you know that this high praise comes from the majority and not a minority.

The DLC is arguably Team17’s love language, with the company showing “how much they care for their fans” be executing such a brutal yet enjoyable addition to a widely acclaimed game. If you want to experience “tank go boom”, which is a lot of “good fun”, you can download this free add-on at no extra cost. However, please bear in mind that, as mentioned earlier, you need the base game first.

If that doesn’t whet your appetite, there’s always the Steam Game Awards to get involved with, with some gamers throwing series shade at one AAA developer…
