PC gamers with a Steam account can currently download and play one of 2023's best-looking video games for the low price of nothing at all.
There are, at the time of writing, hundreds of free downloads, demos, and games available on Steam. You can get your hands on indie gems, free trials, and all sorts of downloadable content. In this day and age, the thrifty gamer can spend dozens of hours playing without parting with a single penny.

One of the best things about Steam is the seemingly endless stream of demos. After all, nobody wants to pay £50 for a game only to find out its rubbish - and all the reviews and recommendations in the world can't stand in for the simple act of trying a game for yourself to form an opinion.

That's why you'll no doubt be thrilled to learn that Atomic Heart has a free demo that you can get stuck into right now. Released at the beginning of 2023, this BioShock-inspired adventure received a lot of mixed reviews. It can be difficult, then, to work out whether or not to take the plunge. Hopefully a free demo allows you get a feel for the game and make up your mind.
One thing I think we can all agree on is that Atomic Heart is drop-dead gorgeous. Indeed, there's an argument to be made that this is 2023's best-looking game, so you'd best be sure you have a PC that can do it justice.
If you reckon you do, then I can heartily recommend at least giving Atomic Heart a chance. While I don't see it breaking into my top 10 games of the year, I recently spent some time with it and came away pretty impressed. Certainly not the best game I've ever played, but gorgeous to look at with some nice crunchy combat. See for yourself, and you might just come away with a new favourite game.
