Valve is set to bring out a new and exciting feature for Steam users which could see them sharing their bustling game library with friends and family.
Currently available on the Steam Beta platform, this new update known as Steam Families is a new feature set to replace Steam Family Sharing and Steam Family View. According to Valve, this will give users a ”single location to manage which games [their] family can access and when they can play”.
The Steam Family will allow the main user to invite up to five family members who can be managed by the main provider themselves. As a result, these members will be able to access any “shareable game” the user owns whilst also having their own saved games, achievements and Workshop files.

“When you join a Steam Family, you automatically gain access to the shareable games that your family members own and they will also be able to access the shareable titles in your library,” the official Valve post reads. “You maintain ownership of your current titles and when you purchase a new game it will still show up in your collection.”
Additionally, the Family Sharing feature allows you to access other member’s games and play them even if they are currently playing a different title. If more than one copy of a game is owned across the group, multiple people can play it at the same time.

If you wish to add the younger generation, you will be able to set up parental controls which will allow you to monitor their playtime, add restrictions and even set up a “request” feature before they are able to purchase games.
However, if said younger brother did get themselves banned from a certain game, you will be going down with them and also receive a ban as the main user.
The Steam Families beta is now available to try out before it is fully launched sometime in the future.
