Steam zombie survival horror finally departs early access after 10 long years

For any video game to realise its full potential, it’s not the best philosophy to rush any project and the title that is the topic of today’s discussion is a prime example of that prospect.

The open-world survival genre is more packed than any horde seen in AMC’s The Walking Dead and it’s difficult to stand out from the crowd especially when it’s competing with the likes of Minecraft, Valheim and DayZ to name a few.

One game that initially struggled to stand out from the crowd is 7 Days to Die which was originally released in 2013 on PC as an early access title. 7 Days to Die did receive a poorly-received port on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2016 which has a woeful Metacritic score of 45 and 35, respectively.

To no surprise whatsoever, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One ports have been long abandoned as indie developer The Fun Pimps have been hard at work for over a decade in the hope that 7 Days to Die would finally become the game it was intended to be.

Unlike the poorly received console version of 7 Days to Die, the PC version of the game currently has an impressive rating of ‘Very Positive’ on Steam, indicating that this is the definitive way to experience the survival title. Now, after over a decade, 7 Days to Die is leaving Steam early access as it shuffles to its full release.

Announcing the news, The Fun Pimps’ co-founder Richard Huenink has revealed in an Alpha Exodus developer diary that 7 Days to Die intends to be released in its final form this coming June on PC. What’s more, the full version of the game will be supported by a plethora of free content updates with a roadmap detailing what’s to come until late 2025.

As a result of 7 Days to Die leaving early access, the price of the game will soon increase so you might want to act fast and purchase the game ASAP if you haven't already. The price of 7 Days to Die is said to increase at the end of this month.

A PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S version of 7 Days to Die wasn't announced during the recent Alpha Exodus video but given this survival game released on last-gen consoles, hopefully, that time will come.
