Why, as gamers, do we enjoy torturing ourselves? We all know that the next The Elder Scrolls title is a long way off, yet here we are, collectively discussing its release with foolhardy optimism.
Some fans are quite happy to wait for The Elder Scrolls VI and focus on next-gen Skyrim. But there are plenty of other gamers who can’t think of anything worse; instead, they want to focus on The Elder Scrolls VI, and it alone.
Even when the next game launches, can it live up to the greatness of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim?
A post on Reddit (where else?) has shared a reminder that “in four years” we’ll be sitting down to play the next Elder Scrolls game. Now, we don’t want to poo-poo on anyone’s hopes here, but four years feels a tad optimistic, especially considering how long we’ve known about this Bethesda title.

“It's been almost six years since that infamous teaser trailer and almost 13 years since the release of Skyrim, but now... we are getting closer. I don't know [about] you, but I'm starting to slightly feel something,” shared the OP.
Others are feeling “something”, too, but it isn’t enthusiasm. “Scepticism is deserved.
Bethesda has done extremely poorly over the last few years, with terrible attitudes and even worse PR for its very below-average quality releases. This doesn't even touch upon how poorly it's treating the Skyrim modding community, which is one thing they did right (10+ years ago!)”
There are some, however, who believe the next game will be a roaring success no matter what. “Dude, Todd can say that The Elder Scrolls VI will have water and I'll be good till release,” joked one Redditor.

It’s a mixed bag. On the one hand, we’re all just desperate for the next title, and on the other, we need this new game to work; we’ve all waited too long for it not to. Sadly, though, that waiting will continue because we’ve got at least four more years before we get to play it (and that’s the optimistic schedule).
