Twitch bans streamer for drinking and driving mid-broadcast

Twitched has banned the Super Smash Bros pro-player ‘bobby big ballz’ for drinking and driving whilst on a live stream.

Best known for being one of the best Super Smash Bros Melee players in the world, bobby big ballz's successful gaming career may have come to an end, after getting his Twitch account banned for drink-driving on stream.

The streamer was live on 5 September, where he filmed himself driving to a local convenience store to purchase some wine. Viewers were horrified to see him open the wine bottle whilst driving home, and start drinking it while still in the vehicle.

The clip was shared online, prompting concern in the community for his safety, as well as outrage that he’d do something so reckless and film it for his audience. A few hours after the incident, Twitch got involved and issued his channel with a ban.

Later on, he defended his actions claiming that he wasn’t under the influence whilst driving, and that his ban should be lifted. He said: “Surely one singular sip of my 12% wine on my three-minute drive home from 711 doesn’t classify as drunk driving … As a streamer, I’m wrong and will take responsibility for my actions. If the community wants to ban me I will humbly oblige. I am not a role model please don’t accept my internet personality as such.”

He went on to say: “Drinking is a way I cope with life. You're welcome to judge me, this is just my truth not an excuse. Thank you any[one] who still supports me.”

At the time of writing, Twitch hasn’t made it clear if the ban is temporary, or has the potential to be lifted in the future.

If it is indeed a permanent ban, it could have disastrous effects on his pro-player career, as he’d no longer be able to live stream his future matches, and anyone else who features him on their streams, like official tournaments, could also face the ban-hammer.
