Fallout fans should check out this brutal free Xbox game immediately

If you're a fan of Fallout, you have to play this free game

If you're a fan of Fallout and found yourself feeling Starfield didn't quite the scratch the itch in the way you thought it might, you're definitely not alone.

Fortunately, there are plenty of games out there for fans of the Fallout series that scratch that apocalyptic itch. But there's one in particular I'm not sure we talk about enough.

Have you seen the new live-action Fallout trailer yet?

Wasteland 3 is one of the best post-apocalyptic games that might have passed you by. I say "might", because I'm fully aware it's the third entry in a beloved series, but it's also not a series that's as widely known as Fallout. This is a damn shame, of course.

"In Wasteland 3 the fate of Arizona depends on the fate of Colorado," reads the game's synopsis. "You are a Desert Ranger, fighting a losing battle to keep your beloved Arizona alive, when the self-proclaimed Patriarch of Colorado radios, promising aid if you will do a job he can only entrust to an outsider—rescue his land from the ambitions of his three bloodthirsty children."

Developed by inXile entertainment, Wasteland 3 is much more like the classic Fallout games than the more action-oriented Fallout 3 and Fallout 4. This is a deep RPG with a heavy emphasis on strategy, but if you dig the worldbuilding seen in any of Bethesda's Fallout games, you'll love what's on offer here. There's a detailed character creator system, a deep skill tree to get stuck into, and multiplayer if you get lonely.

Wasteland 3 is currently available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, but Xbox Game Pass subscribers can download and play it for free. I would absolutely urge you to check it out if you're trying to kill time until Fallout 5, since we all know we're not seeing that game for the next 5-10 years at least.
