As a major Halo fan, I was absolutely heartbroken to see so many people unhappy with the state of Halo Infinite at launch, and boy oh boy what a state it was.

The campaign was pretty good, albeit a bit overpriced as the multiplayer is free-to-play, but the online parts of the game were lacking in heart and soul. Not only was it void of the maps and game modes fans had grown to love over the years, but it was also plagued with technical difficulties and the looming annoyance of microtransactions for weapon skins and armour for your character.

After the player base promptly died and moved on to other games, 343 Industries endeavoured to fix the game with post-launch updates, which obviously worked as fans are saying the game has been in the best state it’s ever been in.

It’s paid off in statistics too, as Halo Infinite passed Destiny 2 as the most-played Xbox game in the US, showing the beloved sci-fi shooter is undoubtedly on the mend.

Most of the credit goes to 343 Industries for adding some stellar content with each season of the game, like the Infection game mode, new weapons/gadgets and plenty of bug and stability fixes. It’s introduced a hearty helping of nostalgia with remade Halo 3 multiplayer maps, and Master Chief’s armour from Halo: Combat Evolved, though the latter has faced criticism for almost costing a full game to wear.

Some of the credit also falls to Destiny 2 strangely enough, as the game recently hit its lowest-ever player count thanks to Bungie laying off an alarming amount of staff members. While most of the blame has been shifted towards Sony, it’s still left a bad taste in the mouths of players, prompting them to take a long break from the game.

That being said it shouldn’t steal Halo Infinite’s thunder, which is arguably the Halo game it was always meant to be, and is well-deserving of its comeback after all the hard work fixing the game.
