Obsidian Entertainment has given fans a closer look at Avowed, its upcoming first-person RPG inspired by The Elder Scrolls.
The new gameplay was shared via today’s Xbox Developer Direct and gave us a closer look at the game’s exploration, questlines and more importantly the combat.

The combat will likely be the most interesting part to players, as it’s designed to cater to whatever playstyle you want your character to have. Like The Elder Scrolls, you’ll have access to an array of axes, swords, daggers and other sharp and pointy things. The magic is what seems most interesting though, as you swish and flick wands and cast spells to open more opportunities for attacking.

Players will also have a vast open world to explore where they’ll find challenging enemies, secrets to uncover and of course, NPCs in need of help. All in all, it looks like an updated version of Skyrim but on a larger scale.
Fans will undoubtedly know Obsidian Entertainment is the developer behind the critically-acclaimed Fallout: New Vegas, and it was recently revealed the team was originally going to have a go at making an Elder Scrolls game as well before the idea was shelved.
Obsidian went on to basically make its own Fallout game, The Outer Worlds, and now it seems like it’s following the same principle for The Elder Scrolls with Avowed.
Nevertheless if you’re one of the thousands of fans waiting for The Elder Scrolls VI to come out, you’ve got a long wait ahead of you. Luckily Avowed will release exclusively for Xbox Series X/S prior to Bethesda’s next big release and hopefully it’ll scratch that Elder Scrolls itch fans have been struggling with for a while.
