Starfield devs listen to fans and add highly-requested feature

Starfield devs have listened to fans and added a highly-requested healing feature.

Sometimes all it takes for a game to go from good to great is to implement a series of quality of life changes and it seems as though Bethesda is aiming for this with Starfield after its latest update.

Starfield has just welcomed its 1.8.86 update and with it, it has introduced a whole new way to consume food. Rather than adding the food to your inventory, opening your inventory, finding the food and then hitting ‘consume’, you will now be able to “ingest food and drink items upon finding them in the environment”, according to the patch notes.

This may seem like a small change but it does save a lot of unnecessary time that could be spent exploring all the cosmic horrors the Bethesda title has to offer. Additionally, if you don’t wish to consume the food, you can also save it for later.

As well as the new food consumption feature, the latest update also added DLSS 3 support to PC players, as well as various graphic and performance improvements. As a long-requested feature, DLSS Super Resolution, Deep Learning Anti-aliasing (DLAA), NVIDIA Reflex Low Latency, and DLSS Frame generation will be made available to compatible NVIDIA graphics cards.

Additionally, there have been improvements to Starfield’s ‘dead eyes’ issue with adjustments being made to the eyes of NPCs. This comes alongside stealth being “more forgiving”, the ability to adjust brightness and contrast in the Display Settings menu and improvements to “minor visual issues relating to lighting, shadows, terrain and vegetation”.

With Starfield’s Steam rating recently dropping to ‘mixed’ two months after it was launched, Bethesda’s latest RPG is having a less than smooth time of it. However, with Todd Howard assuring fans that the team is dedicated to making it an enjoyable experience with a series of updates, fans are still holding out hope that it will live up to other Bethesda classics such as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
