Starfield: Todd Howard reassures fans with support update

Starfield: Todd Howard reassures fans with support update

The studio is still working on Starfield

Bethesda's Todd Howard has commented on the current development team still working on Starfield. Between Bethesda beginning work on the next Elder Scrolls game and Starfield losing players, it was time for Howard to step out and say that the game still has developer support at this time.

Starfield fans are seeing the game take a bit of a rough bump recently. Between being snubbed at the 2023 Game Awards and the player count nosediving beneath that of Skyrim, it's not going well.

Starfield is taking a few hits, but the game is still receiving updates.

Face of Bethesda, Todd Howard, often gets wheeled out whenever an announcement needs to be made, or when the community needs reassurance. So, it's no surprise to see him comment and tell fans that a large portion of the Bethesda team are still hard at work supporting Starfield with updates and patches - which is a relief, seeing as updates have been thin on the ground.

Despite having plenty of players at launch and several positive reviews, the game has waned recently in a year full of absolute bangers. Between this and the game falling short in promised areas, players have begun to wander away from the game. Howard making an appearance will hopefully encourage fans to keep playing or make a return as the game receives more updates in the future.

During an interview with Wired, Todd Howard was discussing his career, but also mentioned that "around 250 developers" are still assigned to Starfield, which represents roughly 55% of Bethesda's development team.

What this means for Starfield is, at least for now, we'll see more additions and tweaks. It was this guaranteed support that saved Fallout 76 from its initial weak performance a couple of years ago, so we could see that same outcome with Starfield. It's likely this team will keep on working until they slowly make their way over to the next Elder Scrolls game.
