Xbox gamers, you can now increase download speeds with one very easy step

Xbox gamers, you can now increase download speeds with one very easy step

Xbox users will finally be able to boost their download speeds, with a much-needed update.

A new update for Xbox consoles is currently in the works and being tested by insiders, and it’ll drastically increase download speeds even while you’re playing games.

The writing is seemingly on the wall for the Xbox brand, as the head of the company Phil Spencer is going to make an announcement on tonight's episode of the Xbox Podcast which will outline what the future holds for fans. It’s speculated Spencer will finally give confirmation that Xbox will be going third-party with its exclusive games.

This means upcoming Xbox exclusives like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle might release on PlayStation 5 after all

There are also rumours the company will no longer produce Xbox consoles in the future, though these rumours have supposedly been shot down.

With that in mind let’s pivot to something more positive than the downfall of the Xbox brand, a sweet new update that’ll drastically reduce download times on your Xbox Series X/S.

Previously when you were downloading a game or app to your console you’d have a faster download speed if you didn’t have any games open. You can still play something while you’re installing but it’ll take slightly longer than if you just left the console alone.

Insider IdleSloth has done some tests with the new update, and says “games are now downloading at 380mbs while games are running.” This is a stark contrast to the snail pace of 40-80mbs that came before, and not far off the download speed for when you’re not playing a game, which is on average about 480mbs.

In short you’ll want to download this update as soon as it’s possible, as it seems the days of quietly sitting and watching a download bar fill up are finally over. That being said depending on the news shared tonight many might want to jump ship to PlayStation instead.
