Xbox gamers are getting the worst version of a game they've waited years for

The more people that can enjoy the Final Fantasy series, the better, no matter which platform you play on - and Final Fantasy XIV Online is no exception.

Final Fantasy XIV Online has been one of the most popular MMORPG’s of the last decade since it was relaunched on the PlayStation 4 in 2014. Over the years it has benefited from tons of content updates and expansions for PC and PlayStation gamers to enjoy. After waiting a decade, Final Fantasy XIV Online has now finally released for the Xbox Series X/S allowing gamers of the green brand to see what all the fuss is about. After all, it has earned a Metacritic score of 86.

As of right now, Final Fantasy XIV Online is in its beta phase on Xbox and you can play it for free. That is until the full game is released and when that arrives, you’ll have to pay for it. I would imagine for the most part, Xbox gamers will be enjoying their time playing Final Fantasy XIV Online, which even includes an exclusive feature that is not available on PC and PlayStation.

So what is this exclusive feature for Xbox gamers, I hear you ask? Well, as reported by Game Rant, it’s an in-game currency. Because video games need more in-game currencies. The FFXIV Coin is used to make purchases via the Mog Station and Xbox Marketplace for certain items. You will also have to link your Xbox and Square Enix accounts to use FFXIV Coins.

Sure, perhaps this exclusive in-game currency might be well-received and prove to be so popular, that it might make its way onto PC and PlayStation. I would assume that Square Enix is also beta-testing this currency but I could be wrong. That being said, I can't think of a single time when in-game currency made a game objectively better, if anything, it tends to make a game worse.

So in theory, this in-game currency kind of makes the Xbox Series X/S version of Final Fantasy XIV Online the worst version, at least for now. Yet, don’t be surprised if it's implemented on the other platforms in the coming months.
