At this point, I might soon start running out of positive things to say about the Call of Duty series, due to it having a lot of fantastic publicity of late.
For some, even with modern-day technical advancements, some fans will always go back to the classic Call of Duty games. While the online chat could be a bit of a cesspit of toxicity, there was nothing quite like playing the original Modern Warfare and Black Ops games back in the day. There was just something special about the intense nature of the competitive multiplayer in which hours would pass by at a moment's notice.

Yet as the years passed by, the popularity of the classic Call of Duty games would naturally dwindle as we gradually entered the modern era of reboots and Warzone - for better or worse. However, recently, the classic Call of Duty games received an update on Xbox which vastly improved matchmaking which resulted in being put into a match within mere seconds.

Granted, the classic games are still plagued the hackers and cheaters, but as long as you’re fortunate enough to avoid them, fans are having a blast returning to the pinnacle years of Call of Duty. What’s more, as a result of the spike in online player numbers, the likes of Call of Duty: Black Ops II (2012) and Modern Warfare 2 (2009) are among the best-selling games on Xbox right now.
Thanks to the recent success with classic Call of Duty games on Xbox, not only are digital sales benefiting from a boom, but so too it seems is the Xbox Series X console. Apparently, according to the Twitter account Xbox News, some retail stores are reportedly selling out of Xbox Series X consoles and Amazon sales have allegedly risen by 84%, all during the recent Call of Duty multiplayer boom.

How true this is, well, we’d have to take the claims with a pinch of salt until we received 100% confirmation. That being said, considering the amazing success that classic Call of Duty games has benefited from lately, it wouldn't come as much of a surprise. Heck, it’s even crossed my mind to tell my brother to finally buy a new Xbox so that we can play some Black Ops and Modern Warfare 2 again.
In more recent Call of Duty news, this year it’s rumoured that the next entry will be the Modern Warfare III reboot and it’s been all but confirmed that progress and DLC will carry over from the Modern Warfare II (2022). If true, progressing carrying over into a sequel will be a first for the series.
At this time, Activision has not officially announced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III (2023), but hopefully, all will be revealed in the coming weeks.
