Xbox quietly unveils new console, but it's not what you'd expect

An official Xbox VR headset is on the way, but it’s probably not what you think.

Xbox and PC now go hand-in-hand - after all, both can be linked to Xbox Game Pass, are easily compatible with Xbox bluetooth controllers, and there’s even rumours of Steam being brought to Xbox consoles.

Yet despite the two platforms playing nicely with each other over the past few years, Xbox fans are yet to get a taste of VR.

PlayStation players are lucky enough to have their own personal VR system, whereas those on PC can take their pick, though at the moment, the Meta Quest 3 is all the rage right now for being reliable and affordable.

Now, Xbox has announced an official VR set is being made, but it won’t be compatible with the consoles…

The VR set will be a collaboration with Meta, which announced it’ll be “working together again [with Microsoft] to create a limited-edition Meta Quest, inspired by Xbox.”

What bells and whistles make it an Xbox-inspired bit of kit you ask? Well it’ll likely have some Xbox-themed branding, as well as come straight out of the box with an Xbox controller and a subscription to Xbox Game Pass.

In case you weren’t aware, the Meta Quest 3 is capable of cloud-streaming Xbox Game Pass games, though you can also hook the set up to a PC for a smoother experience if you’ve got the hardware.

Unfortunately, it’s far from the official VR support fans will likely have been hoping for, and considering how quiet the company has been regarding a VR on official Xbox consoles, it doesn’t seem like we’re getting it anytime soon.

Perhaps when the next-generation of Xbox consoles rolls around, VR will be more of a prominent feature, especially since it’s only getting more advanced with each passing year.
