Xbox's next-gen console pricier than you imagined, says insider

Xbox's next-gen console pricier than you imagined, says insider

Things are about to get more expensive for Xbox and PlayStation gamers, claims an insider.

To no surprise whatsoever, next-gen gaming seems like it's going to get more expensive than we feared, that’s at least according to an industry insider.

Acquiring any new console is never cheap, whether it’s PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X or Nintendo Switch - and it seems that the next generation consoles will be no exception. With that in mind, according to a recent rumour, there’s a good chance that the likes of the PlayStation 6 and the next Xbox will carry RRPs much greater than their predecessors.

As spotted by PlayStation Lifestyle, an industry insider and leaker of information, Kepler_L2, claims that not only will the PlayStation 6 and next Xbox consoles be more expensive, but the overall graphics and performance leap will be smaller, contrary to other reports. I assume that’s when comparing the PS4 and Xbox One to the PS5 and Xbox Series X. This follows comments made by Sony COO Hiroki Totoki claiming that cost reduction on console production is becoming increasingly difficult.

Keep in mind that the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X launched at £449.99/$499.99, with the digital-only consoles being cheaper. We can only speculate how much the next-generation consoles would be, but it might be safe to assume that they could be at least £100/$100 more expensive.

Obviously, we should take all unconfirmed rumours with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise. Especially when you consider that neither Sony nor Microsoft have announced the next-generation consoles, yet. That being said, before the PlayStation 6 arrives, it’s more than likely that we’ll get the PlayStation 5 Pro first, which in itself could also be far more expensive than its predecessor.

Hopefully, both Sony and Microsoft will reveal their new consoles in the coming months. And when that happens, GAMINGbible has you covered.
