Last week's massive PlayStation Plus announcement didn't go down quite as well with fans as Sony might have hoped.
The all-new PlayStation Plus, with its multiple tiers and access to classic games, sounds great on paper. However, it's already being criticised on several fronts.

For one thing, fans aren't exactly thrilled that the long-awaited release of PS1 and PS2 games is effectively locked behind the new PlayStation Plus' highest subscription tier, especially when they already own a lot of these games and just wanted a way to play them on the most recent PlayStation system.

Others have also mocked Sony for the fact that the only way it can get PS3 games to work on PS4 and PS5 is via cloud streaming in select territories. This is because the PS3's architecture is so different (in other words, it's a hot mess) that Sony has never been able to get its games to run on the more recent consoles.
Games Beat reporter Jeff Grubb is now claiming that Sony is looking into a way to emulate PS3 games on PS5 at the hardware level. In other words, it wants to find a way to get these games to run without players having to stream them.
Most experts agree that it's entirely possible to get PS3 games to work on PS5 this way, but that it'll take a lot of time and investment.
“Since talking about this all week, I’ve looked, I’ve asked – it sounds like Sony might be working on emulation for PS3 on PS5,” Grubb explained, via VGC. “It may take some time. I wish they would come out and tell us that. Tell us that you care about this stuff because that is what was missing from the PS Plus announcement – to me, it seemed like they didn’t care about any of it. They just slapped it together, put a new name on it, and sold it.”

Whether or not this feature ever sees the light of day remains to be seen, but it's good to know that Sony has heard our cries and is trying to do something about it.
