A new PlayStation 5 update just dropped, and while it’s not as exciting as previous versions, it does bring two appreciated changes.
It’s always strangely exciting when a new update drops for a current-gen console, to see what innovative changes are introduced to make gaming better. Xbox fans have high hopes their next big update finally gives a much-needed boost to download speeds, whereas PlayStation fans are simply begging Sony for additional dashboard themes.

Unfortunately, the latest PS5 update won’t be letting you customise your home screen, but it will be making some changes to help your console run more smoothly. Taking a look at the patch notes, the update “improve[s] system stability” and improves "the messages and usability on some screens." As I said, not as exciting as previous updates, but the changes should be appreciated nonetheless. It’s unclear what the “system stability” improvements entail and they’re rarely ever noticeable when you compare system versions, but they do keep PlayStation 5 hardware healthy, so it’s hard to complain.

PlayStation has been living the good life recently. They showed off loads of new games at their recent PlayStation Showcase, like Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Phantom Blade Zero to name a few. They also unveiled a new console, Project Q, as well as some sweet new earphones, although the console didn’t go down well amongst fans who’ve been ruthlessly mocking it ever since the announcement.
It’s also been adding some great stuff to its PlayStation Plus service, including more free games for June, additional Extra tier titles, and some new Premium tier game trials, although the new additions haven’t pleased everyone. Hopefully, the next PlayStation 5 update brings some more substantial changes with it, or at least custom themes for our home screens.
