PlayStation 5 Slim price surfaces in Microsoft documents, isn't that much cheaper

A PlayStation 5 Slim price has surfaced in Microsoft documents, but it isn't that much cheaper than what's available now.

For quite some time now, Sony fans have been wondering if we’ll see a revised PlayStation 5 console ahead of the release of the PlayStation 6. Well, Microsoft may have just provided an answer to your question after leaking what appears to be a PlayStation 5 Slim.

Insiders have been teasing a new console for months, with the recurring rumour being that a revised PS5 would be introduced featuring a detachable disc drive. This means that Sony would only need to create one base console, whereas as now it creates two - the disc tray and digital versions. There’s little evidence to support this rumour though despite its prevalence. We do know for certain that Project Q is on the way - a new PlayStation handheld. It’s essentially a cross between a Nintendo Switch and a DualSense controller that you’ll be able to link with your PS5 for remote-play. Microsoft have seemingly leaked though that a PS5 Slim is set to be released too.

Take a look at Project Q below.

Microsoft have recently been arguing their case in court after the US’ Federal Trade Commission filed a temporary restraining order and injunction in an attempt to block the company’s proposed $68.7 billion acquisition of Activision. During the trial, we’ve heard from Microsoft, Bethesda, and even PlayStation. As reported by The Verge, one Microsoft document submitted as evidence claims that Sony “is expected to release a PlayStation 5 Slim later this year at the same reduced price point” as the “less expensive Digital Edition for $399.99.”

If you were hoping that a PS5 Slim would be much cheaper, it doesn’t appear as if that’ll be the case. Clearly, $399.99 is cheaper than what you’d pay for the standard base console but seeing as we already have the Digital Edition available for $399.99, the new slim model would have to come with a few extra bells and whistles to draw in buyers I’d imagine.

Could the new PS5 Slim be the detachable disc drive version leakers have been teasing? Would the $399.99 price point include said detachable disc drive? If not, it’s pushing the already hefty price tag up even higher. It’s food for thought and we’ll certainly be keeping an eye out on any further developments.
