66% Of PlayStation Fans Have Ditched Work For PS5 Launch Day

Can't say I blame them.

Today is the day, my friends. After months of waiting, the PlayStation 5 is finally available in the UK. This last week in particular has been a real struggle, especially since we've had to watch on jealously while most of the world got to play with their new consoles on November 12th, but we're here now. We're here, and nothing can stop us from enjoying the next generation of PlayStation.

Those of us who managed to secure a console in time for launch are obviously going to want to spend as much time as possible with our purchases today. That's why a large majority of PlayStation fans made the decision to book November 19th off work - so that nothing would get in their way. This is according to research conducted by executives.co.uk, who found that 66% of fans are taking the PS5 launch off to get some quality time in.

Surprisingly, just 2% admitted that they'd be calling in sick rather than using annual leave, although I'd put good money on that number being higher. Unfortunately I didn't have the foresight to call in sick or book today off, but who knows? Maybe I'll start to feel sick around 2pm when my PS5 turns up. We'll see.

Just 31% plan to work the day as normal and then, I assume, lose themselves to their PS5 later on in the evening or whenever they finish work. I'd ask what kind of person doesn't book the PS5 launch off but, as I've firmly established, here I am. Writing these words. On launch day. I really do hate myself sometimes, you know?

Of course it's also worth noting that not everyone will have taken the day off just to play the PS5, although that's obviously an added bonus. Despite being in a pandemic, there are plenty of people around the UK who still need to physically travel into work. These people are booking days off because they have to, and because terrified by the idea of not being at home when the postman shows up with a £500 bit of kit. I totally understand that fear.

Whether you have gone into work or you're eagerly waiting at home, today should be a pretty exciting day for everyone that secured a PlayStation 5. Here's hoping that this is just the start of the best generation of gaming yet.
