'Bloodborne 2' In Development For PlayStation 5, Says Insider

All I've ever wanted in life (or since 2015) is a sequel to Bloodborne. FromSoftware's immaculate action-RPG is a masterful blend of gothic horror, exploration, and controller-snappingly frustrating boss battles.

FromSoftware has of course since moved onto other projects. Dark Souls 3 and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice were both triumphs, and I've no doubt the upcoming open-world adventure Elden Ring will be another incredible experience. But still I crave a return to the twisted cobbled streets and blackened forests of Yharnam.

The good news is that I might finally get my wish. The bad news? It sounds like FromSoftware might not actually be involved - although the studio rumoured to be working on the Bloodborne sequel is more than capable.

Earlier this month, reports surfaced that Bluepoint Games is developing a PlayStation 5 remaster of Bloodborne alongside a full-on and completely original sequel. For those keeping track, Bluepoint developed 2020's excellent Demon's Souls remake, and was more recently officially acquired by PlayStation. The studio, best known for its remakes, teased at the time that it was working on something new.

During a recent episode of the XboxEra podcast, reliable insider Nick "Shpeshal Nick" Baker corroborated both the remaster and sequel reports. He also claimed that the long-rumoured PC port of Bloodborne is finally ready.

Take this with a pinch of salt for now, of course. I'm conflicted, personally. On the one hand, Bloodborne is a FromSoftware game through-and-through, and it'd be odd to see a different studio attempt to make a sequel.

On the other hand, Bluepoint proved with Demon's Souls that it totally understands these games. If nothing else, Sony owns the rights to Bloodborne and can do whatever it likes with the franchise. Let's just hope it knows enough to treat it with the care and respect it deserves.
