Return to Yharnam.

I'm not sure I say this enough, but I absolutely adore Bloodborne. In my humble opinion (which probably isn't worth that much), it's FromSoftware's finest game to date, and easily one of the best PlayStation 4 exclusives, right up there with God of War and Marvel's Spider-Man.

The Gothic action/survival horror title is a fantastic game to play during any time of year, but its Lovecraftian charms are especially potent over the Halloween period.

Creeping down the game's many winding, darkened cobbled streets while some terrible eldritch abomination draws deep, raspy breaths just out of sight as the cold, long nights set in outside is the perfect way to enjoy the spooky season.

Of course if you're like me, there's a good chance that you've already played Bloodborne to death and have seen every horror it has to offer. That doesn't make it any less of a good game, but knowing what lurks around every corner does dilute the experience somewhat.

The good news is that the most avid Bloodborne players is attempting to inject fresh life into the game in time for Halloween by organising a special Return to Yharnam event - a community-run virtual get together in which everyone jumps back into Bloodborne to get dressed up, run around the city of Yharnam, and invade as many players as possible.

Everything to do with the event, including the exact start time, has been decided by players on the Bloodborne subreddit. The community has also been instructed to invade and use resonant bells in an effort to "add a lot of life and community vibes to the game for the month we are returning to Yharnam."

If you want to get involved, the event kicks off on October 5 and runs to November 5. All you have to do is create a new character, get dressed up in something spooky from a list of community-approved costumes, and invade other player's worlds till your heart's content.

While the likes of Dark Souls 3 and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice are undeniably great FromSoftware games, I think the way gamers have rallied around this community-driven (and entirely unofficial) event speaks volumes about the enduring charm and appeal of the curious, fascinating, morbid world of Bloodborne.

As one user said on the subreddit, to much agreement, "'Return to Yharnam? lol I've never left." I'm right there with you, my friend.
