As I'm sure most of you are all too aware, the PlayStation 5 finally launches in the UK tomorrow. After a full week of jealously eyeing up our friends across the pond as they tear into their next-gen consoles, it's finally our turn. I don't know how much the wait has impacted you, but I've taken to refreshing my Amazon order every hour on the hour. It's not healthy. I know that.

While my pre-order seems pretty secure (unless I'm screwed at the last minute) I know there are plenty of folk out there who didn't get so lucky. Sony seems confident there'll be plenty more PS5 consoles available around launch, but those that were really wanting one in time for launch day might find themselves disappointed. Those people might not want to watch the following video of a YouTuber smashing up his brand-new PlayStation 5.

You might have heard of Plainrock124 before now. He's a pretty popular YouTuber who seems to have inadvertently revealed the internet's fetish for the destruction of expensive technology. His entire "thing" is that he brings home a shiny new console or other piece of hardware, and then merrily sets about seeing how much punishment it can take before it's nothing more than rubble.

Earlier this month I covered one of his videos in which he opens up a brand-new Xbox Series X and messes it up by dropping an actual fridge on it like a damn Looney Tunes character. Planrock124 said at the time that he'd be tackling the PlayStation 5 as soon as his order arrived, and it looks like he was true to his word.

If you can stomach such wanton destruction, you can check out the full video below (or via this link here). I've heard so many nice things about the DualSense controller that seeing battered around so callously is genuinely difficult to watch, but the YouTube upload currently has well over 1 million views so I'm clearly in the minority here.

Do I remotely understand the appeal of videos like this? Absolutely not. It seems hugely wasteful to me, and a bit of a kick in the teeth for those that couldn't get a console. But as I say, this dude is seriously popular on YouTube and has a very loyal following, so maybe I'm the problem for not wanting people to smash up expensive consoles? God I hope that's not true.
