Cross-Dressing Cloud And Red XIII Show Up In New ‘Final Fantasy 7 Remake’ Trailer

Final Fantasy VII Remake is almost upon us. Granted, the long-awaited reimagining of the 1997 PlayStation classic has been nudged a little back in the release schedule, but it's not like April 10th won't be here before you know it. And to tide you over, we'll have some new preview coverage of it for you, real soon.

Before we begin to break down Remake in more detail, though (which we're super excited for), here's a spangly new trailer that delivers both the game's theme song and a wealth of new footage. Said song is called 'Hollow', and is written by Nobuo Uematsu, the composer on 1997's Final Fantasy VII and several other titles in the role-playing series, including everyone's secret favourite Final Fantasy IX and 1987's very first Final Fantasy for the NES.

Check out the 'Hollow' trailer on YouTube, or embedded below.

So, what have we got here, then? Well, one thing we get a good glimpse of is Cloud dressing up in women's clothes in order to gain entry to Don Corneo's mansion. We see the flashback scene with Cloud and Tifa talking to one another in the town of Nibelheim, where Cloud announces he's joining SOLDIER and promises to return some day to be his friend's "hero". We see Shinra's Palmer enjoying some tea but lamenting how he doesn't... have enough butter? Presumably not in his tea. Unless he really is a monster.

And speaking of monsters, here's Red XIII. What? He is kind of a monster, right? Just, a lovely kind one, who can totally Limit Break with the best of them. He escapes Shinra with his new pals, and then we see... Actually, I'm not going to list anything else here. Just watch the trailer and listen to the song, already.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is a PlayStation 4 exclusive on release in April, but is expected to come out for other platforms in due course, perhaps a year later. Or at least, I expect it to. I can't see why it wouldn't. Maybe not Switch but, hey, the OG FFVII is on that, so we're good, Nintendo.

As you may know, Remake focuses only on the Midgar-set opening of FFVII, but has enough content to comprise a full game - which means it'll have between 30 and 40 hours of content, I reckon. The second part of the, I guess, series(?) is in development now.
