'Demon's Souls' Is Being Remade For PlayStation 5 - Prepare To Die

Back to where it all began.

FromSoftware has become best-known throughout the gaming world for the ultra-challenging Dark Souls series. But years before the original 2011 RPG masterpiece, there was another.

Released in February 2009 as a mostly forgotten PlayStation 3 exclusive, Demon's Souls was the precursor to the Dark Souls trilogy. A twisted, challenging monster of a game that was - in many ways - a lot more difficult that the games that came after it.

But while the Dark Souls franchise - as well as Bloodborne and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice - have gone on to become immensely popular, not many have ever really bothered to revisit the game that started it all. To be fair, a big part of that is because Demon's Souls has only been available to play on PS3 for all these years. Until now.

During the PlayStation Future Of Gaming event last night, Sony announced that Bluepoint will be releasing a remake of Demon's Souls for PlayStation 5, and it looks beautiful. Check out the trailer below.

For those that don't know, Bluepoint has established itself as a master of remaking classic PlayStation games. You may remember the studio put together 2018's incredible Shadow Of The Colossus remake for PlayStation 4. Bluepoint is also being assisted on the project by Sony's Japan Studio, who worked with FromSoftware on Bloodborne. It's fair to say that this remake is in very safe hands, then.

Sony didn't specify when exactly we'll be able to play the Demon's Souls remake, but we can probably assume (or at least hope) that it'll be out later this year when the next-gen console launches. We also know that the remake will be exclusive to PlayStation 5 - just as the original remains exclusive to PS3.

As someone who only played Demon's Souls once, many years ago, I'm very excited at the thought of getting to try it out again. I'd also imagine there are plenty of gamers who've fallen in love with FromSoftware, but haven't been willing to buy an old PS3 just to check out this particular chapter in the studio's history.

Of course, Demon's Souls wasn't the only surprise during the PlayStation 5 event. We also got news of a brand new Spider-Man game starring Miles Morales, a sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, and Resident Evil VIII: Village. Plenty to get excited for when the PS5 finally launches later this year.
