PlayStation Discord integration is finally about to drop

PlayStation Discord integration is finally about to drop

At long last, PlayStation is getting in on the action.

The day that Discord is finally integrated into PlayStation, streamlining voice chat between players in their favourite online games, is drawing near. But, there might be a catch.

games radar spotted a Tweet from Zuby_Tech that alleges Discord and PlayStation integration is imminent. Yet their screenshots seem to show that only those on PlayStation 5 will have access to voice chat and those on PlayStation 4 won't get this feature.

Given that this is the main draw of Discord over individual games' voice chat systems, this is a bizarre omission. PlayStation 5s are still difficult to get ahold of and they are a significant expense for gamers that are perfectly content with their last-gen gizmo, so it's strange that the integration would miss out an entire generation. It would additionally mean that people playing the same game across PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 wouldn't be able to talk to each other.

Naturally, it's prudent to be all ears for an official announcement from either Discord or PlayStation before we take these screenshots as gospel. Xbox players have benefitted from Discord integration since mid-September and applies to both Xbox One and Xbox Series X and S consoles, allowing users to swap between Discord and Xbox game chat with ease.

Last week, Discord has launched the new Activities feature that allows users to play games and watch YouTube videos together. Regular Discord users get Watch Together and Putt Party, whereas Discord Nitro subscribers get these two and the games Poker Night, Sketch Heads, Chess in the Park, Land-io, Blazing 8s, Letter League and Checkers in the Park. Tidy.
