Eminem Throws Shade At Sony Over PlayStation 5 Shortages In Brilliant Sketch

Dear Santa, I wrote you but still ain't callin'.

It's a major task to try and buy a PlayStation 5 right now, and Saturday Night Live knows it. It's produced a skit about Stu, a down-on-his-luck dude who writes a letter to Santa, and becomes increasingly... incensed.

In the sketch, Santa asks his elves to read out letters received from children all over the world. The group, played by Chloe Fineman, Kyle Mooney and Beck Bennett, draw his attention to a series of escalating letters addressed to Santa from a man named Stu, played by Pete Davidson. Descending into his basement, Davidson's hair is bleached blond and he wears a dishevelled white tank top, exactly as the actor does in the original video. "Dear Santa / I can't believe the year is almost over / it's getting colder, I'm a year older but I'm still your soldier," sings Stu.

He wastes no time and doesn't mince words: "the only thing keeping me alive / Dear Santa, please bring me a PS5." Sony has assured that new stocks will arrive before the end of the year, but there's still an enormous number of people waiting to get their woolen mittens on a PS5. The sheer demand for the console caused online retailers to crumble under the weight, and so lots of people who did have a PS5 in their basket had them whisked away owing to website errors. It's enough to tear your hair out, especially if this is the second or third time you've tried to buy one.

Unfortunately, a few have been lured in by the promises of scalpers, who have been selling the units for more than double their asking price. It's a state, though retailers and second-hand sites like eBay have taken action against these groups in various ways, thankfully. "I tried to buy one at Walmart / ran around the shop mall like Paul Blart / tried to find one for sale / but the thing is they're all out / yo, I even went to a Gamestop," continues Stu. "But then I was like, 'Oh wait stop' / Santa Claus can make one, the man got his own workshop."

Santa is a very busy man, and technically speaking, he answers the requests of young children, not adults. Stu doesn't seem to appreciate this, and intensifies his tone in the second letter. "If you can't help your biggest fan then you should just retire / or next time you slide down my chimney I'll set your ass on fire," he threatens.

The original Stan features Dido singing the chorus, and so actress Kate McKinnon sings: "Stu is waiting for his surprise / to open up a PS5 / he just really wants to play / "Assassin's Creed" on Christmas Day / but he can't buy it himself because he lost his job because he was stealing from his boss / I'd be worried, Stu's a scary guy / a scary guy." Also, actor Bowen Yang does his best Elton John impression and tells Santa; "He already asked you really nicely and now he's really pissed off / I'm just telling you 'cause I like you a lot / I'm a big fan of Santa Claus / and I also want a PS5, a PS5."

Ultimately, Stu's actions aren't enough to bag him (or Dido, or Elton John) a console. "Dear Stu, I think you got the wrong address bro. I'm not Santa Claus, bye bye," responds Santa at the end of the video. Then, Eminem himself pops up on the scene, opening a present with a tag "for Shady, from Santa." It's a PS5, but he's confused because he didn't ask for one. "I guess Shady must have been a good boy this year," he concludes. "Sorry Stu, you f*cked up."
