It’s the end of an (admittedly short) era. Live service for Dreams, Media Molecule’s PlayStation exclusive game creation title, is coming to an end very soon.
In case you were unfamiliar, Dreams allows users to create their own games to share with others, and players have made some seriously cool stuff over the years. From totally fresh ideas to cursed creations based on existing franchises, we’ve seen it all. Unfortunately though, just over three years on from its launch, and support for the PS4 title is shutting down.

“As we continue to evaluate and evolve our priorities for the studio and Dreams, we’ve made the difficult decision to discontinue live support for Dreams after 1 September, 2023 to shift our focus to an exciting new project,” the devs wrote in a blog post on the official Dreams website. “You’ll continue to be able to play, create and share Dreams with others after September, but we won’t be releasing any more updates to the game or events such as DreamsCom, All Hallows’ Dreams or the Impy Awards. We’re incredibly proud of the work we’ve done in developing Dreams - such as our content releases, Create updates and live events - and we are endlessly grateful to the community for their belief and continuous contributions since launch.”

Thankfully though, the game won’t be totally killed off. You’ll still be able to buy and download it, and as the devs already stated, it'll still be possible to play, create and share things in the game even after the final update in September. The devs have also clarified that they’ll continue to roll out critical bug fixes after the last update, if required.
No further word has been given on Media Molecule’s “exciting new project”, either, other than the fact that it’s not a sequel to Dreams, or anything to do with Dreams at all for that matter. We’ll just have to watch this space.
