PlayStation Plus Accidentally Released A Third Free Game Over The Weekend

In a strange turn of events, the good folk at PlayStation somehow managed to accidentally release an extra free game for PlayStation Plus subscribers this weekend just gone. Multiple users searching through the digital storefront reported seeing FromSoftware's gothic action horror game Bloodborne for the low price of nothing - provided you had a PS Plus subscription.

Twitter was swiftly filled with PSAs from users and publications alike, urging subscribers not to sleep on this surprise freebie. Bloodborne is, after all, one of the very best PS4 exclusives. If you can get it for free, that's an opportunity you just can't afford to miss.

Unfortunately Bloodborne's appearance as a bonus PS Plus freebie didn't last very long at all. No sooner had it appeared than people began to report it had been removed once again, leaving those who missed out on the brief window frustrated - and not frustrated in the good way that Bloodborne would have made them.

Its unannounced appearance has led most of us to assume that Bloodborne was never intended to be released as one of October's free games. Rather, it seems to have been an accident on the end of someone at PlayStation HQ. Or someone in charge of these things just really loves Bloodborne and wanted as many people as possible to play it. I get that.

Of course most PS Plus subscribers probably already have Bloodborne downloaded, or at least added to their library - it was included as a free game for subscribers earlier this year. Still, if PlayStation did want to re-release it as a freebie again closer to Halloween, that'd be the perfect time for a game like Bloodborne.

Until such time as that happens, you can now download and play October's free PlayStation Plus titles. Announced last week, you can get your mitts all over Need For Speed: Payback and Vampyr. One is a recent entry from a classic racing franchise, and the other is a gritty RPG about vampires. I'm sure you can probably work out which is which from the titles.

You'll have until November 2nd to add both of these games to your PlayStation Library. After that, you'll be able to download and play them at any time for as long as you're a paid-up PS Plus member.

Oh, and if you were desperate to play Bloodborne for free, don't forget that it'll be one of the games available via the shiny new PlayStation Plus Collection when the PlayStation 5 launches next month.
