Square Enix has announced that its much-anticipated, PlayStation 4-exclusive (for now) remake of 1997's Final Fantasy VII, namely Final Fantasy VII Remake, will be shipping early to those who've pre-ordered to ensure that players around the world receive the game in time for its April 10 release.

The reason is, obviously, the Covid-19 outbreak, which has disrupted the supply chains of too many products and consumables to mention.

In a message posted to the JRPG franchise's official Twitter account (and, presumably, elsewhere too), the Japanese studio stresses that anyone receiving the game a little earlier than expected should hold fire on the spoilers. Check out the post below:

I'm not going to repost below every word of what's said above, but to break it down to its core messages:

"Our highest priority is that all of you, including those living in countries currently facing the biggest disruption, can play the game at launch, so we made the decision to ship the game far earlier than usual to Europe and Australia.

"As a result, there is a greater chance that some of you in these regions will now get a copy of the game prior to the worldwide release of April 10... We really want all of you looking forward to Final Fantasy VII Remake to play the game on April 10 and experience everything we've been working on, together.

"To everyone, we would like to ask one big favour: If you get the game early, please think of others and don't spoil it for them. [This] is a new game that still has many surprises for everyone."

The note is signed by the game's producer, Yoshinori Kitase, and its director, Tetsuya Nomura.

Now we're not about to pile-in with any spoilers ourselves - you'll be able to read our thoughts on Final Fantasy VII Remake when the game's reviews go live. But we do really want to reinforce to you, dear reader, that this is a new game with a whole load of new stuff in it. It's not a simple retelling of the story from 1997, with the exact-same events playing out in the order they did, back then. And we'll say no more about that but, please: if you get the game early, don't go posting clips and pics all over the place. Don't be a jerk about this one.

We met Yoshinori Kitase and co-director Naoki Hamaguchi at a preview event for FFVIIR shortly before the world went into coronavirus lockdown. You can check out that interview below, or on Facebook. You can also read words on that preview, and if you've not done so already, allow us to remind you that a demo for this long-awaited game is available now. Not long to go now, not long at all.
