Gamer Hijacks Airport Monitor To Play 'Apex Legends' On His PS4

Airports are objectively among the worst places in the world. This is a fact. A fact I could prove with science and statistics and figures. I don't know if you've seen Love Actually, but that bit at the start where Hugh Grant bangs on about how magical and special airports are is a disgusting load of old horsesh*t.

They are grim, cold purgatories full of overpriced rubbish food and devoid of any personality. Airports are not the one. I hate them, and you should too. The best way, in my opinion, to waste time in an airport is to simply try and forget you're there. Find an escape, by reading a book, watching Netflix, or maybe playing some video games.

For that last one, most of us would probably game on a laptop or a portable console like a Nintendo Switch. But not all of us are as heroic as a certain young man who, while waiting recently at Portland International, decided to take things to the next level.

In an effort to combat the creeping sense of hatred that airports instill in us all, this guy whipped a PS4 out of his bag, plugged it into an airport information monitor, and started playing Apex Legends.

"That is obviously something that we don't want to have happened," Port of Portland spokesperson Kama Simonds explained to KXL. "Because travelers need the information that we are putting on the screens for them."

I feel like plugging a strange machine into a screen at a US airport could have potentially ended very differently for the guy in question, but by all accounts it was resolved fairly quickly and entirely amicably. According to Simonds, the operations supervisors asked the gamer "very kindly" to unplug and pack up is gear.

The would-be gamer then asked, equally politely, if he could finish up his game. Unsurprisingly, the answer was a resounding "nah."

"Apparently it was a very polite and cordial interaction," Simonds explained, describing it as "a good reminder of what not to do at the airport".

Honestly, the most surprising thing about this story, in my opinion, is the idea that any airport could have Wi-Fi good enough to play an online game like Apex Legends.
